TEHRAN – Over 145,000 members of the IRCS Youth Organization in different parts of Iran joined the ‘New Life’ project on the ‘World Organ Donation Day’as volunteers for organ donation.
The project which has launched since 2009, promotes humanitarian culture especially among young people with the aim of preserving human health and reducing human pains.
According to Amir Lalegani, Iranian Red Crescent Youth Organization deputy, the project tries to promote the initiative in order to save the lives of those who are in need of organ transplantation.
“Our ‘New Life’ project is well-known in the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies as the biggest humanitarian project of IRCS Youth Organization. More than 145,000 membership cards have been issued for volunteers.” Lalegani further said, five volunteers have donated their organs since the beginning of the project.
“Late Nastaran Alijan Toroghi, an active member of the Red Crescent Student Society at the University of Parand, was the last one who donated her organs four months ago to 14 recipients in need of organ transplantation,” he added.
